Weapons Inventory

While searching through the Los Angeles City Archives, I found this inventory list of police equipment which was completed on May 22, 1850, just a few months before the city incorporated. The equipment consisted of twenty muskets which are probably surplus arms from the recent Mexican-American War.

During this time period, we find regular requests to the Quartermaster General of the California Military for surplus equipment to outfit volunteer police such as the Los Angeles Rangers. No doubt, this equipment was from a similar request.
